I would just like to thank everyone this week who have passed on their condolences to me and my family for the passing of my grandmother. Most importantly though, I would like to thank my family for been a huge support in this difficult time.
So I am now going to write what I wrote that was said out at the service of my grandmother by the celebrant:
"I might start off by saying this: 'Pasta is for the cows'. Those that knew Muriel well, will know that she didn't like her pasta at all.
Muriel was a person that loved her sports especially AFL where she was a passionate supporter of the Carlton Blues, loved her cricket, golf, her tennis - not the Australian players for some reason and I never actually knew why for some reason, rugby league where she followed the mighty Melbourne Storm, or better known to us Melbournians where it 'rains purple' and Canterbury Crusaders in Super 15's rugby union. There is one sport she didn't really like watching on TV and that was soccer, however, she did have a soft spot for Dandenong Thunder.
As you can probably tell, Muriel loved her sports. The weekends were where she would tell those referees off and giving them what for all for the right reasons of course. There was one thing missing most that I have left out: The strawberries and cream.
I know this might be something short and sweet, but its how Muriel liked things to be done, so on conclusion of this speech I would like to say this: Muriel Cotton was a fantastic Mother to her children, Aunty to the many nieces and nephews, Grandmother/Great grandmother/Great-Great grandmother to the many grandchildren she had and valued friend to many in the community. So I ask you to remember her in the best possible way with all the great memories you have of her to celebrate the life of an amazing and magnificant person she was.
Love
Jamie Kenmure and family"
Once again, thank you to everyone who has passed on their condolences to me through facebook by liking or commenting on my last status, through a private message, through text message or phone call. May she rest in peace and be in our memories for a long time.
